    Dear Mr. Kitson
Thank you so much for your interesting letter. I would have written sooner, but I have been engaged in a long tiresome correspondence over some of my affairs. I have looked up the entries in the diary & find no mention of Cotman in June or July 1804. It is quite clear from the entries that Mrs Cholmeley took Francis Ann & Catherine to Scarboro' on Aug 10th and that Mr Cholmeley joined her there with Mary & Harriet on Sep. 18th, after which they all returned with Cotman to Brandsby on Sep. 25th. It is evident he joined them there. The manner of introduction of Munn [Paul Sandby] & Cotman can only be guesswork. They came to Brandsby on July 9th 1803 & as you know were there of & on till the 14th. The next mention of them is Aug. 2nd when both came to Brandsby, Munn going away the next day & Cotman remaining for a long time & paying visits only for odd nights to places like Helmsley until the tour which began on Sep 14.
