DEPARTMENT OF PRINTS AND DRAWINGS, BRITISH MUSEUM, LONDON: W.C.1

Dear Mr. Kitson, I feel I owe you a profound apology. I have recently received an extraordinarily expressed, and very badly written letter from a gent. called Marriner, who appears to live at Eynsham. If I remember rightly, I had some correspondence with him towards the end of last year with regard to the topography of Greta Bridge. I think I may have taken the liberty of mentioning your name over the matter, as the chap seemed really keen to know about the topography of the drawing. Now I get this very curious epistle, which seems to be particularly annoyed about you. If one could only read it, one might learn more about the matter. However, I gather that the writer rang you up and had rather a heated conversation with you. Anyway, I'm afraid he's been a bit of a nuisance to you, and I feel I ought to apologize most humbly for being the indirect cause of the trouble. I hope the great work is progressing well.
    Yours most sincerely
    Edward Croft Murray.
