    WALKER'S GALLERY
At Walker's Gallery Cotman is seen best in the finely monumental "Draw Well, Norfolk," Girtin in "Valle Crucis Abbey, Denbighshire," Towne in "Pont Dû, near Festiniog," and Turner in "Scarborough Castle, Yorks." Among the lesser men there is a well-chosen selection of wash drawings by A. T. Devis, an interesting view by John Emes (No. 33), and a beautifully composed "Landscape with Sheep" by Samuel Palmer.
In harmony with these are the quiet, controlled water-colour drawings of Maurice Clark, who recently retired from the art mastership of Harrow School. His drawing is distinguished by a nice architectural sense, but his happiest compositions are those of the waterfront at Poole, such as "Newman's Yard, Poole."

    LORRY DRIVER FINED

Magistrate's Evidence in Speed Case at Deddington
An Oxford magistrate, Mr Sidney Kitson of Thornbury House, Kidlington, and his daughter, Miss Elizabeth Kitson, gave evidence to-day at Deddington when Ernest J. Hughes, of Stretton-on-Dunsmore, Rugby, was summoned for exceeding the speed limit with a lorry at Middle Aston and Steeple Aston.
Miss Kitson said she was driving towards Banbury and caught up with a lorry near Hopcrofts Holt, which, she alleged, was travelling at 40 to 45 m.p.h.
Mr Kitson corroborated and said the lorry was swaying from side to side.
Hughes said it was impossible for his lorry to travel at 40 m.p.h. and asked that a trial run should be made.
He was fined £1 and ordered to pay 5s. costs, and his licence was endorsed.
