several had signatures & dates 1809 which I can't remember at Palser's. In fact, I think that I looked in vain for signatures & dates. Probably I didn't see them all.
The general effect was dazzling & glittering & rather unrestful. Cotman would have liked it & of course the majority of the drawings are late anyhow. And as we couldn't take notes & were rather hurried, we felt rather as if we were in an exhibition without numbers or opportunity to collect ourselves, & for me it was worse in a way because so many of the best drawings were already familiar. I felt a bit deadened. We would like to ask him for the Devil's Elbow & one of the late paste drawings but how describe it?
I am rather planning to go with Röell by car, Armide conducting, to L. Wright on Saturday or Sunday. Shall we look in on you on Saturday afternoon? We sh[all] start via P.M.T. at Gerrard's Cross - diplomacy.
Everyone at Norwich asked warmly after you & wanted me to send their messages.
Yours ever, Paul Oppé.
