< I wrote to suggest to Captain Heath that Tom Cotman was probably the brother of J. S. C., born in 1783, who set up as a draper in Diss – Norfolk.>
    May 1st 1935
    OLD MALTINGS, WALDRINGFIELD, WOODBRIDGE.
    Dear Sir
Thank you for both your letters and for your cheque enclosed in the second.
I am sending the other two photographs herewith. I am interested to know there is still a John Sell Cotman.
Anne Walne Cotman (my grandmother) I find was married to Benjamin Heath in 1840 at [[Diss Church]], Bamford Church, near Diss. She was daughter of Thomas Cotman, who might quite well be John Sell Cotman’s younger brother as you suggest. I have nothing to show the relationship, however. I have all the Heath records in detail – but no Cotman. These could probably be furnished by J. S. C. (grandson) – or my father’s cousin Leonard Cotman of Preston might be able to. I will write to him if you find any difficulty in finding out.
    Yours very truly
    C. Noel Heath
