    CLASSICAL DANCE.
The Reeve drawing of this subject (1902 - 5 - 14 - 50) is mounted in an album with other drawings by Cotman from the same collection.
It is in brush and sepia on yellow paper, brightened with white, and measures about 6¾" x 10½".
The M.S. Catalogue of the Reeve Collection states that it was "purchased of Mr. J. King, who had it with other drawings of B. Samuel, Pawnbroker, Norwich". In the margin of the catalogue reference is made to a drawing "Figures dancing in a classical landscape" sold at Christie's in May, 1843. This may probably be identified with lot 135, sold on May 17th of that year, and bought by Mr. Taylor for £5.
