This is the oil a photo of which Sir Henry Wilson sent me - '[?] by [B?], + considered by Constable to "certainly be by Cotman under the influence of Crome" - Seems to be (Judging by photo) a 'production of a 2nd rate member of the Norwich school.' See a landscape by R. Ladbrooke in Diches.

P.O. writes 'The 'Cotman' in lot 51 is of no interest. I saw no reason to consider it by Cotman. It is a wash woodland study, with some approximation to Cotman's tree forms, but that's all. Incidently the [Gunther Gallery??] is a friend of mine, Tom [Lovingley? Lowingley?], artist and collector.

Mr W H Hunt writes to the Sidestand Salw. "Lot 34. Cotman sepia drawing sold away for 13.2.1. I was the underbidder.
Lot 114. The general belief about this picture was it certainly was not by Cotman. In no way good [?] for him. But it was thought be be by Hodgson, who is known that he did not sign his pictures + it is found that signature was put on by neither of the artists, which detracted from its value even if by Hodgson.
Mr Boswell bought it for 10 guineas."
