Ashmolean museum note/ Crome painting for sale bought by F.R. Meatyard/ Ink illustration by Norman Lupton
Kitson includes a cutting from the report of visitors to the Ashmolean museum referencing Kitson and a painting by Pietro Testa 'Dead Christ'/ Kitson entry on the Heseltine sale of a Crome painting which had previously been exhibited as a Cotman painting at the Tate as formerly attributed to Crome. Kitson writes that it came up as a Crome, and was sold to F.R. Meatyard after a 'spirited contest' between Meatyard and P.M. Turner/ Ink illustration by Norman Lupton of F.R. Meatyard standing on a defeated P.M. Turner with Meatyard clutching a sword and the picture.

In the Heseltine sale lot 401 had been Exhibited at the Cotman Exhibition at the Tate as a Cotman, 'formerly attributed to Crome' -
It came up again as a Crome, after a "spirited contest" F.R. Meatyard secured it for £70, against P.M. Turner.
