    of design, is all to the good. We have been sadly deficient in this respect: but I am sure that Cotman was not always absorbed in this, and took a great delight in solidity and the third dimension.
    I shall suggest this to the author - when I have recovered from the feeling of being under the scalpel, in the dissecting room.
    If this sort of accurate diagnosis is going to be employed - even quite second rate artists will begin to turn in their graves. It is better for a practitioner not to read too much of this sort of thing. It is disturbing.
    However it has given me a great desire to see more of Cotman's later phases.
    I hope you are well & enjoying Rapallo. I hear that my sister Mrs McCandlish, who lives in Worcestershire & has the beautiful 'mill' of which I spoke - is going out to Rapallo. I shall tell her to call on you so that you may have someone to talk J.S.C.
